‘Detective Pikachu’ Writers Hint at the Cinematic Universe’s Version of Red

While traveling to Ryme City in the first ten minutes of the film, Tim (Justice Smith) watches a highlight reel of the city and its recreational activities which features a Pokémon trainer (Ryoma Takeuchi) in attire that is similar to the character Red.

For a number of weeks, fans have speculated that this could be our first glimpse at the popular character featured in multiple of the core games and we may finally be getting closer to an answer.

Speaking with Gamefragger, the writers of the film, Benji Schmidt and Dan Hernandez, gave their thoughts on the easter egg.

“There’s a moment where they start the video sequence, they cut to a trainer that seems … he’s certainly wearing a lot of red. So, that to me is, for the people that choose to interpret it as “Is this Red?” Well, he’s wearing a lot of red.”

That is as close as we’ll get for now but with Kanto being named dropped and a spin-off focusing on adapting the Red and Blue games being in development, it is safe to suggest that we did get our first look at Pokémon Cinematic Universe’s version of Red.
